Beavers, Or Lack Thereof?

On the left, 10/10/2017, and on the right, yesterday; same spot.

More beavers, or fewer beavers?  X says their dam is downstream; so less water means less/no dam.  So, fewer beavers.

Hopefully this is just cyclical and normal.  I really like beavers.
