Every studio album from the debut through SHADOW KINGDOM is reviewed by two contributors (two different people for each album, with some repeats), with the conversation guided by the author/editor. There are no real hot takes here. For example, the 80s albums are given the lowest reviews; surprise surprise! Another commenter here made the observation that every album is given the same number of pages for discussion, and it might have been better to include more discussion of the better or more important albums… and the less said about UNDER THE RED SKY, the better, IMHO.

I’m kind of a superfan and avid reader, so little in this book was new to me.

I did learn this: the “y” in Dylan’s name influenced the spelling of “The Byrds” which in turn inspired the Turtles to at first call themselves “The Tyrtles”, and another band which achieved no lasting fame to call themselves “The Myddle Class.”

I realize that for a long time now my blog has been almost nothing but yarn and book reviews. Maybe with summer I’ll have more to say.
