It was supposed to have decorative tufts sewn on, but I had trouble making that happen.
It’s from a very local (Jericho) Navajo-Churro handspun (not by me).

It looks nice and soft and smooth. It also looks completely opposite to the kind of knitting that I’m doing right now. Meditative rather than focused-and-counting.

Not soft at all. The Navajo-Churro is very scratchy and full of short thick hairs that like to fall out. But, it’s a chair mat (just needs sitting on to squish it). If ever a good application for Navajo-Churro, a chair mat is it.
